Baby Cat is playing toesies and pawsies under the door with Sol.They were playing with one of the toys that Pixel's Mom Karen sells*.This picture was taken while she was still in the bathroom.She still plays toesies and pawsies, just under a different door!

Today Baby met BJ, Boomerang, Smokey and KC.

I allowed them in, one by one, to stay in the room with her.It went very well.

Sometimes you can "analyze" way too much,
instead of just being thankful Baby is healthy and well,
and glad she choose me to live with.

OK, Baby and I are back home now.

Learned a few things about her...

Baby Cat isn't really a "baby" cat -- she is between 1-2 years old!

She is half Meezer and half Tabby.

She has had a litter of kittens!

She was covered with fleas (I could tell, she scratched constantly)

She weighs just 8 pounds.

The X-rays showed no babies, but bad constipation.

She's got a laxative to take.

She goes in Friday for her Lady-Garden-ectomy.

All her tests came out negative.

Dr. Smith said she will be tested again in 3 months.

If I allow her to be with her "brofurs & sisfurs" and her next tests turn out positive,

they would be infected.

Now I've got more questions than answers and feel a bit overwhelmed.

I started getting a really bad headache on the way home, so I am going to rest.

I don't know what to do about integrating her into my cat family.

Three months is a long time to keep her separated.

Monday with Baby Cat & KC

Baby loves Smokey StarChaser.

And of course, she played all night long.

She and I have a vet appointment with the wonderful

Dr. Kathleen Smith at 4 p.m.

Hopefully Baby will pass her tests and have full run of the house.

Now I am getting worried about how the big cats will react.

The last time I introduced new cats, they were teeny babies.
And there were only two adults, both females.

Any suggestions or tips?

Pee Ess: I was just looking at her, she seems to have lost a lot of weight. She is much thinner than when I first brought her into the house. She has a fairly good appetite, but isn't like my other cats, who tromple over me, other cats, anything to get to their food. Baby ignores the food until she has been hugged and kissed and petted for a while.

Saturday Caturday with Baby Cat

Baby Cat is still quarantined to the bathroom and will be until after the vet visit on Monday at 4 p.m. Once we get the "all clear", she will move into my bedroom with me! Yay!

Yesterday she tried Temptations and kitty grass.

No complaints!!!

Today I gave her one of Pixel & Samba's Mom Karen's cool kitty toys.

As you may know, beautiful Pixel is the love of Smokey's life.

I'm going to do a brief "commercial" for these toys, my cats adore them.

I am very very picky about cat toys.

This is made of something cats already love... bottle caps... they are recycled!

They are filled with rattleys and covered with yarn using a super-super glue... I pulled and pulled. Neither the yarn tore nor the glue budged. Then Sol & BJ had a turn. They have played with this toy, rough, every day and it still looks good as new.

I don't imagine this cat is going anywhere, except to share a room with me.

She is as sweet as she is beautiful.
And she loves to talk to me.

I got her a Smokey StarChaser and she learned to use that today.
I'll post those photos tomorrow.

I'm sure I'll hear that going all night long, sleeping on the floor in the bathroom.

Maybe not the best idea to bring it in while we are still in such close quarters.

Frootbat Friday - Baby Cat @ KC's House

Baby Cat is fine!

So sorry for not posting, everyone is probably thinking the worst!

Had to cancel the appointment, the migraine was too bad for me to drive.

Took meds and fell asleep.

The new appointment is Monday at 4 p.m.

She is just playing and playing, I fell asleep beside her.

Will post after we visit Dr. Smith at 4 p.m.

Everyone, send purrs, grrs, whatever
that sweet Baby Cat checks out fine.

All her vital signs here are great.

She has a really healthy appetite.
She is pooping and peeing in her litter box.

She loves to snuggle and interact with me.
She is active and plays a lot.

She has a huge voice and can MEEOOW really loud.

She has almost chewed up a kitty toy she loves.

She sleeps on my pillow when I am not there.

And when I come in, she jumps in my lap,

she rolls over on her back and

looks up at me with those big blue eyes.
And her big frootbat ears are the cutest.

The "official" plan is to foster her while we find her a home.

Update:

The earliest vet appointment was 4 pm tomorrow, so that's when I will take her.

Meantime, she is the happiest little cat. She found a toy and spends hours rolling over and over playing with it. When she is not playing, she is growling at herself in the mirror -- she is still quarantined to the bathroom -- or sleeping in a little ball on our makeshift "bed" on the floor.

I would have posted earlier, but have one of the worst migraines ever. Those things waste so much of my time!

OK, I can't wait, here are the first photos of her.

Monday night was the first time I saw her outside.

I believe she was someone's cat because she is so affectionate and loving.

Went to feed her outside tonight, she was sitting in the porch rocking chair. She turned and let me pick her up! She puts her paws around my neck and her head on my shoulder.

I would guess she is about 5-6 months old. She is very thin. My neighbor Joycey and I were outside watching her Tuesday evening. We both think she may be going into heat. There were two very persistent tom cats here all night Tuesday. This little cat kept coming up and "knocking" on my front door. I couldn't get her to come in, she'd run off.

I'm keeping her isolated from the rest of the cats until we see the vet.

We... she and I... are spending the night in the bathroom.

These first photos were taken with her in her second favorite spot, the toilet top.

Her first favorite place is on a bed on the floor in the bathroom. She sleeps beside me with her head on the pillow.

I don't have a name, just calling her Baby Cat.

We'll be posting more after we see Dr. Smith.

As you know, MeowMeowMan was selected at random as the winner of the wonnerful Cat Scratcher Lounge back in early December.

We wanted to follow up with another report on our lounger.

Mom ML noticed that we no longer scratch the noo couch!!!

Mancat Monday - Smokey Scare!

About 4:00 a.m. this morning, Smokey let out the most horrid, bone-chilling howl!

I have never heard anything like it.

I ran to find him sitting in the hall looking very tense.

BJ almost tripped me trying to get to his twin brofur.

Smokey repeated this howl and then started throwing up.

He staggered a few feet, threw up a bit more, and collapsed on the bathroom floor.

He drank a bit of water... the fountain is there... and threw up bile.

I was trying to watch him and get on the internet to look up symptoms.

The info I found wasn't that helpful, it stated vomiting could either be nothing or be extremely serious.

I was getting ready to take him to the Emergency Vet.

He sat beside me and rolled over and started nodding off.

He wasn't affectionate like he normally is, he did not want me to touch him.

But he wanted to be near me.

I made him a bed in a favorite basket, and put a cover over the top to keep the light out.

He was sniffling, so I fired up the vaporizer.

He rested for a few minutes, then jumped up and went to the water.

He drank about half of it, then looked at me and went back into the "hidey hole" in the basket.

I was dialing vets to see who would be open today.

After that, I just sat, for three hours, staring at the basket.

He got up about 8 a.m., used the litter box, groomed Faith Boomerang, and sharpened his claws on the new lounger.

He looked at the food I had just put out, but only ate one Temptation.

Then he ran back in his basket.

Dr. Smith's office was closed today, but Dr. Rutledge was in.

They were probably the only vet in the area open, they were really busy.

But the wonderful vet tech stayed on the line with me to listen and advise.

He said if there was no more vomiting, Smokey was probably fine.

There were no appointments until late afternoon, but said if he started getting sick again to bring him in.

I finally got to sleep only to have Daddy Charley wake me up with a bad case of stomach flu.

One thing the vet tech asked was if Smokey had been stressed.

About two hours before, Sol had cornered Smokey.

I knew about it because I heard Smokey squealing.

Sol has, I hate to say, a tendency to "bully" when he can get away with it.

He fully knows what he is doing, too, he will give me these "sheepish" looks.

KC is the only one who will fight back with claws and teeth.

I don't know how stressed Smokey was, but it stressed the rest of us.

I'll post some photos of Smokey just as soon as my camera is charged.

I truly hope everyone else had a better "holiday" than I did.
But it was still good because Smokey seems to be fine now.
Daddy Charley is sleeping after being sick for hours.

Toys on Toosday - BJ

BJ loves the new toys from KBMeow Cat Creations, run by Pixel & Samba's Mom Karen.

They were sweet enough to send us a sample to test.

The kitties loved them so much, I had to order more.

The toys are recycled, made from bottle tops, which happen to be one of my cats favorite things to play with. They are filled with organic catnip and then wrapped with colorful yarn.

The yarn is very secure, I tested by pulling and pulling, and it wouldn't budge.

Mom Karen assured me that the toys are thoroughly tested to be sure they won't come apart.

Monday, Not A Fun Day - KC at the Vet

KC is going in to see our wonderful vet, Dr. Smith, in a few minutes.

She has a chronic URI and with the cool weather, it has gotten worse.

So she will probably be getting one of the antibiotic shots that lasts a couple of weeks.

We'll post more when we get back.

BTW, little sisfur Faith Boomerang may be going as well, she has the sneezies this morning.

UPDATE!

Leslie and Dr. Smith examine a very reluctant KC!
She has a sinus infection and had three shots and IV fluids.
We also purchased some special treats that have lysine in them,
since KC doesn't like the lysine flakes or paste.
And I got some of the salmon and sweet potato cat food they all love!

And Faith Boomerang was not sneezing this morning,
so we will take her in if she should start showing symptoms.

Yesterday, 11/11/11 at 11:11 and 11 seconds,
the date and time were a purrfect same-number palindrome.

That means it reads the same backwards and furrwards.

And that won’t happen again fur anuffurr 100 years.

Well, akshully, it happened again at 11 pm iffen you don't observe military time.
Hee hee.

Anuffurr way to say it... yesterday was a repunit palindrome!

REPUNIT stands for REPeating UNIT
and refurrs to a number that contains only the digit "1".

So iffen you write yesterday's date as 11-11-11, well, it was a repunit day!

Ok, this is a bit much...

This snake is two feet in length and stuffed with cotton and catnip!
It is so well-made and sturdy, it should actually last a while.

Happy National Feral Cat Day to Effurryone!

Mine brofurs & sisfurs is all formerly feral cats!

Yup, effurry one of us.

So we's living proof of how wonnerful Feral Cats can be!

I was finded wandering by mineself on a dock in San Pedro, CA.

They looked and looked, but could never find a trace of mine fambly.

I had to learn to survive at a furry young age of just a few weeks.

Brutus Junior is named after The Royals' Brutus, cause bof are such big Texas man cats.
BJ and all tha boys were born here, inside the house, to his Momma Dinah who was a wild feral cat.

Sol is Smokey & BJ's brofur.
He has tha most gorgeous jet black furrs, wif just a spot of white on him's chest.
He was tha runt of tha litter!

Sweet Faith Boomerang is a former feral who lurned to take cares of hers self at an early age.

Who would effurr know that to look at her today.
Hers is Sol, Smokey & BJ's half-sisfur 'cause all of them had tha same father, Romeo.
Her mom, Momma Tortie, bringed her to our doorstep after hers father, Romeo, tried to kill her.

Smokey is BJ's twin brofur.
He is an acrobat and nearly gives effurryone heart attacks wif him's antics.

The three brofurs haf never known life outside as true ferals.
Since them was handled so much after they was borned, they's furry affeckshunate and loving.

Missy Blue Eyes was a feral living in an apartment complex.
Effurryone feeded hers, but no one could catch her to bring her home.
After haffing a litter of kittens, Natalie was able to bring Missy into her home.
Missy came to live wif us when Natalie was diagnosed wif cat hair allergies.

Momma Dinah & Momma Tortie were too wild to go to regular homes, so they are living as farm cats wif night time shelter. Sort of tha best of bof worlds.
Romeo was the Daddy of Faith Boomerang and Sol, Smokey & BJ and countless other cats.
He was feral although many people took him in and tried to make him into a housecat.
He hated being indoors.
He was hit by a car last year and died.

Mommy ML is currently attempting to trap another outside cat, a black and white kitty that is furry fast. Once captured, it will go to Dr. Smith fur checking out. If he/she is healthy, we will foster and find a forever home for it.

Mancat Monday - Roach Hunt!

Anytime I see two or more cats in the tub, I know something's going on.

And the towels are pulled down on the floor, things that were in and around the tub are now on the floor... what is going on today?

Aha. The hunt is on.

Not sure what hunting move this is... but it's a good pose for the camera!

Smokey, that's looking like you're going to actually "get" this big bug.

No! Thank goodness.

The boys will not touch these things, they just like to chase them.

And bring everything down in the bathroom in the process.

I gave the big bug a "swimming lesson" after the photos were taken.

Finally Rain - Missy Blue Eyes

All of a sudden, after months and months and months, the rain started!

Then came the high winds and loud thunder.

Sol even stopped munching kitty grass to watch.
You can barely see across the street.

Missy turned around to look, then moved to the bed and fell asleep.

Sol followed her and also fell asleep.

Boomerang watching the rain... she didn't want to get too close to the window!

BJ listened to the wind and loud thunder!
We lost and regained power over a dozen times.

Smokey watched the rain and lightning from a safe distance.

Saturday the temps will be below 90F!!!

We are all so excited about the cool fall weather!

KC - Vet Visit

KC waits nervously for Dr. Smith.

Dr. Smith found lumps on KC's neck.

We have to watch them and report back ASAP if they grow or don't go away.

We are very worried.

KC had a busy day.

She got fluids, several shots, a mani-pedi and a thorough examination of the mysterious "lumps" on her neck.

Dr. Smith and Jessica tried without success to shave KC's neck in an effort to examine the lumps.

If they don't improve, they will sedate her for the exam.

She has throat problems and a really bad allergy, plus the upper respiratory infection.

She slept all the way home, then had a treat can of A/D and went back to sleep.

Dr. Smith couldn't believe my hand was still swollen.

She said she could see the nerve damage when I try to move my fingers, it does not "work" right anymore.

Missing Cathy and a New Home for Beau - KC

The Cat Blogosphere lost a wonderful lady and I lost a good cat blogging friend.
I have been so sad I haven't been able to post.

Cathy and I were setting up a fundraiser to cover Beau's vet bills.

Beside my desk is a package of items she sent for me to auction.

And a Goodie Box I was filling with little things to cheer her up.

She was so worried the vet would find something wrong with her precious Beau.

She seldom complained about herself, she would only write how she was "getting better".

Now we need to find Beau a special home, hopefully with a cat blogger.

Someone who can love him while he adjusts to life without his Mom Cathy.

I believe the problem with Teresa, Cathy's sister, keeping Beau is that she has several older cats that do not get along with Beau.

Mom ML needs Purrs & Purrayers Today!

Remember when Missy Blue Eyes bit me a few weeks ago? (Click here to see related posts.)

It left a huge knot on the back of my right hand. It started to go away but has now come back.

The entire area is red and flushed, very painful to touch.

And it started migrating downward;

the original bite was right beneath the knuckle of the middle finger.

Now it has moved down almost to my wrist.

I’m having trouble moving my fingers and typing.

Yikes, if I can’t type, what will I do?????

I’m going to the doctor today, if I can get in, and let him fix it. Am very nervous.
Update: My appointment is for 2 pm today.

I'm back!
Had to have xrays done of the area, there is swelling about like half a golf ball.
The swelling is all infection! Ugh.
Dr. Bob was afraid the infection had gone into the bone.
The xrays showed it has not.
It is in the tendons and nerves, it really hurts.

I'm supposed to not use it, keep it elevated and keep heating pads on it.
He gave me a round of really strong antibiotics to see if it will respond.
Otherwise, I'll be referred to a hand specialist for surgical cleaning.
Which does not sound like a lot of fun.

I's Been Thinking.... Missy Blue Eyes

You 'member when I put tha big bitey on Mom ML?

I bited so hard my toofs got stuck in her hand.

It healed a bit, but then she had to go back to the docktor again.

It is still swollen where the two toofmarks are on tha back of her right hand.

Yesterday it hurt really bad and started swelling again.

She's going back to the Doctor on Monday, 'cause she can't move her fingers.

I'm so sorry I bited her.

I'm miserable.

I feel really really bad.

How can I let her know how bad I feel?

KC - Remembering Charlie Taylor

This is the second anniversary of the day sweet Charlie Taylor was helped to the Bridge.
It still seems like yesterday, when what was supposed to be a simple vet visit turned into a goodbye.

In tribute, we are going to match Eric & Flynn's commentathon donation
to Mom Judi, Sammy, Andy and Shelly.

Update: All of us cats heres are feeling really good.
Eric & Flynn just sended a total of the donation and we matched it.
Plus bof of us added a sekrit gift amount.
We know our brofur Charlie Taylor would be very happy knowing we helped some furriends in hims memory.

Thankful Thursday - Faith Boomerang & Catmint

Hi everyone, Faith Boomerang here with a Thankful Thursday report.

I am thankful for the huge catmint plant growing on Mommy's bedroom window.

We've got pots of several kinds of yummy grasses on the windowsill.

And one day she brought home a tiny little plant.

She said it was called catmint and it has a euphoric effect on us cats.

She said it is also used in herbal teas as a sedative for hoomans.

But the best thing is it keeps the bugs away from the kitty grass.

An extract from this pretty plant is being used as a natural insect repellant.

And it is a hardy plant, cause it has survived months of Mommy ML's ~~neglect~~ special kind of care.

The room has a western exposure, so it gets tons of afternoon sun.

I love to come sit in the shade under this yummy smelling plant and nap.

I guess it is euphoric, that's why mine dreams are so happy in here.

KC's Going Back to the Vet Today!

Here is KC with her favorite person in the entire world, Daddy Charley.

She will be seeing Dr. Smith & Jesse later today.

The infection is coming back and she is too sick and tired to put up much of a fight.

We'll post when we get home.

pee ess #1: Don't forget that KC's condition is chronic and was caused by being abandoned as a newborn. The best we can hope for is to keep the infections away with regular treatment.

pee ess #2: My hand looks a bit better, some of the swelling is gone. But the pain is just unbelievable. I am worried one of the tendons is damaged. The pain meds do no good at all, even doubling the doseage didn't help. I definitely will not wait until this Friday to go in for a check up, I may go this morning or Tuesday at the latest.

I made a place all her own beside the bed, on a quilt so she could watch over me.

Of course, then I had to get photos, she looked so sweet.

Update!

Mine Mommy ML is home again.
Hers gotted a tetnus shot and some Auntie Biotic pills and shots.
Tha doktor said tha infekshun could be going into the tendons and bones in hers hand.
Then hers would need surjery to get it out.
So hers haf to keep it elevated and try not to use it!
Iffen its not looking better in a few days, hers haf to go back fur more Auntie Biotic.
So keep them purrs coming... they are working so good!!!
And maybe send a purr or two towards Missy Blue Eyes, that she will stop biting the hand that feeds her!!!!

Sunday Update: Fanks fur tha heads up about being mine 5th Gotcha Day instead of tha 4th.
Mom ML says it seems like yesterday since I get heres.
Also, I've started playing again.
Last night I finded a belt and dragged it all over the house. Then Smokey gotted it and put it in tha water fountain. He always does that wif effurryfing. We had a fast game of Elephants, too. I's feeling much better! Fanks to effurryone fur tha purrs and fur sharing mine Gotcha Day wif me.

I'm trying to get a good photo of her to post and she is having none of it. I'll try later.

She has responded very well to the medications.

But she is getting stuffy again.

I'll have to try using the nose drops, if I can't, I'll take her to Dr. Smith and let her do it.

Tortie Toosday - KC at the Vet

Sweet KC was not feeling well all weekend.

KC went to see Dr. Smith and her wonderful crew yesterday.

She has been feeling bad for a few days and her little nosey was completely stuffed up.

She got two shots and some IV fluids to hydrate her.

She's still not up to par yet and is resting with her brofurs guarding her.

If you didn't catch yesterday's post, the kitties did a review of the KatKabin.

Our review KatKabin is being shipped off to Susan today.

She is a fantastic cat rescue person and we know she will put it to good use.

We auctioned it off to raise funds for Wee Paws!

Even though KatKabins were designed to provide protection and safety for outdoor cats,

we think they look equally great indoors.

The kitties are very sad to see it go, as they really enjoyed it for the review.

Zach informed us yesterday that they will be sending them their very own KatKabin!!!

And for a family of cats as close as the Sherwood Kitties are, it is purrfection!

They can all pile inside, together, the way they love to sleep and snuggle.

We'll have a special post when it arrives, hopefully get photos of all 6 cats inside!

The KatKabin was originally designed to provide a secure and comfortable place for your cat to use outdoors, sheltered from the elements.

Our KatKabin arrived in excellent shape!

KatKabin Dimensions 22" L x 16" W x 13" H
Door Opening 6.5" W x 7" H
Weight 10 pounds

Included: Insulating cushion with removeable washable cover and a clear front cover flap.

(The unit we received did not include a cushion, cover or door flap, so these are not reviewed)

Assembly Required: Insert the cushion and attach cat door.

Miss Boomerang checks out the interior while brofur Brutus Jr. admires the sleek, aerodynamic lines!

One of the first things you will notice is the sleek aerodynamic design. The oval sides allow the wind to move through without turning it over or blowing away.

There are a series of ventilation holes on the upper back panel to allow air circulation. Strips of black plastic seal all seams and joints to make it weatherproof. It would offer a lot of protection outside in cold weather, particularly if you purchased the extra warmer and/or fleece pads that are available. And it appears to be well-ventilated for the warmer climates.

You can see the protective overhang in the front;
this is where the clear plastic door would be installed if we had one!

The entire unit is made from a high-grade fade resistant material that can withstand a wide range of temperatures. It has a slick shiny surface that gives is a modern look. It comes in gorgeous colors and is very lightweight. There is a front overhang to protect the door area.

Four feet on the bottom lift it up off the ground, away from the heat or cold. There are also holes in the feet to secure the Kabin. This is a very good feature if you live in a windy area or are worried about it being stolen or moved.

We gave the KatKabin a six-tail salute (out of 6 cats).

My cats really enjoyed the KatKabin. They actually left their cardboard boxes*!!!
I think it would make a great cat bed indoors, love the way it looks in a room.
Besides being so practical, it is a lot of fun, from the bright color to the fact that the entire unit looks like a big pink kitty cat, complete with ears, whiskers and paws. It looks neat indoors and provides a spacious hang out for the kitties. I auctioned this KatKabin to raise money for Wee Paws and am going to have a difficult time getting it away from my cats to ship tomorrow. It is going to a very special friend to rescued cats, so it will be well used.

Update: Zach just emailed and The Sherwood Bunch will be getting their very own KatKabin! Yay!

*As any true cat person knows, cats do not abandon their cardboard boxes on a whim! Congratulations, KatKabin!

Lookie Who Came to Live Wif Us!

It's Mr. Pooh!

Mr. Pooh was living wif Katie & The Kats in Virginger and now he's here wif us.

Mine Mom ML really really really likes him.

She said she has wanted a bear like this all hers life.

Him is a golden mohair Steiff Bear, weighs 12 pounds and is 3.5' tall.

And he was born about 1950, so him's really really old.

We all want to fank Katie & The Mishkats for

being so generous and sending Mr. Pooh heres to lif.

He haf a wonderful furever home wif all of us.

KC really loves the cute stuffed carrot.

Faith Boomerang ran off with the strawberry just seconds after I took this photo.

Sol finally had a turn with the Nip Nana when BJ ran off for a nap.

Our wonderful furriends Nikita & Elvira recently sent us a big package of treats.

The Nip Nana was the big hit of the day with the mancats.

KC loves the plush orange carrot.

Faith Boomerang claimed the adorable strawberry, but ran off and hid to play with it.

Also included was Tiki Cat canned food... it is the first time that the kitty plates were actually licked clean. I am trying to find it locally, already placed an order online.
